Nikola Mirotic and a 2nd round draft pick have been traded to the New Orleans Pelicans for Omer Asik, Jameer Nelson, and Tony Allen (three unimportant players). But most importantly, the Bulls acquired a 1st round draft pick from a 7th seeded west conference team that just lost their star in Demarcus Cousins (Boogie) from a season ending injury.
Let’s talk about the possible future standings for the Pelicans before we get into the Bulls, ladies first. Nikola was great for the Bulls but let’s face it, he isn’t a replacement for Boogie. Boogie was an all star. In fact Boogie was best center in league, averaging a monsterous 25.2 points, 5.4 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 12.9 rebounds on 47% Shooting from the field. The only thing Niko can do better than Boogie is shoot from beyond the ark. Shooting only 35%, Boogie is blown out of the Park by Niko’s astounding 43% from 3. That’s all Niko has over Boogie though, as Niko only averages 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds. Right now the Pelicans’ future doesn’t look bright after the loss of boogie, even with Niko.
The Pelicans’ poor luck is amazing for the Bulls though! Sitting at the 13th seed in the weak east, the Bulls are projected to get a high draft pick and now without Niko, the Bulls are going to have to tank for an even higher pick. Acquiring a 1st round pick from a team bound to fall off in the absence of their star guarantees the Bulls two high 1st round picks! This rebuild is finally getting underway! Young and budding stars like Markkanen, Dunn, and LaVine assure that the Bulls will be a major threat in a few years especially when they are joined by two high 1st round 2018 picks.

Great post Jimmy, you’re spot on!!!
Great trade and good explanation. What are your thoughts on Lauri Markkanen. Is he the next Dirk?
A video will come on this soon. 😉
Mr. Padar,
It is good to hear that the Bulls are in an advantageous position as of now. While I don’t normally follow sports, I found your commentary about Nikola as a poor substitute for Boogie to be insightful. Keep up the good work!
