Yesterday the Cavs traded six players! Let’s recap these trades one at a time.
Isaiah Thomas (IT), Channing Frye, and a 1st round pic were traded to the Lakers for Larry Nance Jr. and Jordan Clarkson. This trade was mutually beneficial for both teams. The purpose of this trade from the Laker’s standpoint was to get more cap space for summer free agency. Wanting stars like PG13, LBJ, and Boogie, the lakers needed to get rid of high salary players. Obtaining IT clearly wasn’t the main point of the trade because not only has he been underperforming this year, but the Lakers already have Lonzo Ball and and IT’s contract only has half a year left. This Trade isn’t very complex front the Cav’s side, as they just wanted to get rid of their inefficient, 13 point per game point guard, while also getting a little bit younger. The two players the Cavs received are both under the age of 26, while IT is 29.
Next, 35 year-old Dwyane Wade was traded to the Heat for a 2020 second round draft pick. This trade was done just so that the Cavs could get younger. The Heat simply wanted to get back the old face of their franchise. Even though Wade isn’t what he used to be, the fans still love him.
- Finally, the Cavs made a three way trade involving the Sacramento Kings and the Utah Jazz. This trade involved D Rose going to Utah, Crowder and Shumpert going to Sacramento, and Rodney Hood as well as George Hill are going to Cleveland. I honestly don’t know why Utah wanted D Rose, since they’ve already confirmed that they’re waiving him. Logically speaking, there’s also no reason for the Kings to want Shumpert and Crowder since both of them are not only old, but bad players in general. The Cavs easily won this trade as they got younger and better with Hood and Hill. Both of them can play 3 and D.
